For a metals manufacturer, we produced a print and digital catalogue against a written art direction called Machined Silence: one paper, one metal, and a rule that every rule line is a datum and every margin a tolerance. Writing the direction down before layout is what held every page and product shot to one standard.

## The challenge

Technical catalogues drift page by page when the design intent lives only in the designer's head, and a catalogue that looks inconsistent makes the parts look inconsistent too.
